Is the figure adorning these antique cast iron andirons Marianne, a national symbol of the French Republic, standard of liberty and reason, and one of the most used figures in France? Or could it be the infamous Marie Antoinette? Either way these andirons or firedogs will be a stunning addition to your fireplace. This lovely pair are made of cast iron and have the most beautiful natural age patina. And, the pyramid-shaped billet bar is attached directly to the figure giving them a somewhat Sphinx appearance. If you don’t have a fireplace but simply must have them, I have a few ideas for you. How about using them as bookends? Or doorstops? Or separate them some, add a great piece of marble and use them as a stand for an object d’art? Or use them as just a curiosity on a shelf? Whatever you do with them I’m sure they will be an item of conversation. This pair is in wonderful condition.
