Description
Rway Furniture….to create charm in your home… is how a 1951 magazine ad reads for a gorgeous low dresser from the same line as this chest of drawers. And, were they right or what!? This piece is full of charm. Comprised of two sections, somewhat like a chest on chest, with the upper portion having two full width drawers and the lower having three full width drawers. All five of the drawers are adorned by delicately draped pulls and placed inside a chest. The upper and lower portions are divided by a rail which is carved with a wonderful floral design at which point the vertical frame becomes four sweetly curved legs. The ends of the top have a slight beveled edge giving a softer look. Almost rounded. The top, sides, and drawer fronts are definitely light mahogany; however, the legs and the frame of the chest itself may be another species of wood that has escaped our power of detection. All the details combine to make this chest of drawers an exceptionally beautiful piece of Art Deco styled furniture. Rway Furniture (originally founded in 1881 as Mattoon Manufacturing Co. and changed to Northern Furniture Co. in 1904 upon the death of its founder George B. Mattoon) as the company was named in 1949, over the years operated a chain of 12 showrooms across the country. Their operation ceased in 1993. According to a 1947 and a 1951 magazine ad, this style bedroom suite was produced then. We have been unable to find whether it was produced prior to 1947 or after 1951. Great history. Great quality. Great style. You need to make it yours.
