Description
This kimono, which means thing to wear, is absolutely stunning! Kimono such as this one are called uchikaki and worn for formal occasions or weddings as an outer garment or coat usually over several other layers of kimono. The uchikaki is longer than an everyday or informal kimono and has a padded hem made to trail along the floor. It is worn left open without the use of an obi and sometimes the sleeves or furisode are much longer on such a formal garment. This one is made of oyster white silk with alternating rows of hand embroidered brocade design comprised of stylized chrysanthemums in alternating colors of red and purple mixed with a metallic golden thread, and diamond shaped blocks of Japanese style cranes in green and black with silver and gold metallic wings. The complete kimono is lined with the most gorgeous red silk you have ever seen with this lining making up the padded hem. Simply gorgeous!!! This fantastic kimono would be a delight to wear but would also make an extraordinary wall hanging. Or, the best of both worlds, hang it until you want to wear it. It should not be hidden in a closet. You need to make this beauty yours.
