This is an outstanding pietra dura landscape. It is inscribed on the back but all we can make out is Firenze meaning Florence. We have provided a photo so maybe you can read the other words. Due to the inscription we believe the scene to be one of the bridges crossing the Arno River in Florence. The stones chosen to create the beautiful scene are magnificent. Pietra Dura Italian for hard stone is a mosaic art form that flourished in Florence in the 16th and 17th centuries, before and since. The stones are highly polished, cut, and fit together tightly, then adhered to a separate stone substrate. The primary stones used for these wonderful works of art due to their level of hardness were and are quartzes, chalcedonies, agates, jaspers, granites, porphyries, and petrified woods.
