Description

This beautiful cat sculpture is incredible. Hand carved and signed by Luman Kelsey. We believe this to be early work by this famous artist. We have only found one other example in this medium by Kelsey listed online but it is also of a cat. However, he is sitting tall instead of lying down. They were possibly intended to be a pair. This sculpture is one of those pieces you love to hold. It is extremely smooth, and its sinuous lines are lovely. Luman Kelsey 1905-1961 was a self-taught artist who worked in many mediums. He was once described as a professional hobbyist but his lifetime in the arts in Canton, Connecticut and his association with the Society of Connecticut Craftsmen and the Canton Artists Guild prove he was an artist to be reckoned with. This adorable yet sophisticated cat will look marvelous on your bookshelves, mantle, or coffee table. Make it yours.
