Catalina Picture Tile was started initially under the name Palisades Picture Tile in 1978 in Venice, California by artist, violinist, teacher, author, composer, arranger, and musician Christopher Reutinger. He collected original Catalina Tiles which were created between the years 1927-1937 and because the tiles were so scarce, he decided to make high quality reproductions for other collectors. In addition to reproductions, he created originals which he called “scenes I wish the old company had made.” His mother was the 5th cousin of Lady Diana Spencer! At the age of nine, he began to study and play violin and by age twelve his compositions were being performed by the San Diego Symphony. In 1964, his senior year in high school he was selected to be Concertmaster of the San Diego All City’s High School Orchestra. He won a full scholarship to San Francisco State University where he was part of the Morrison Quartet which appeared every Sunday on a show called “Molnar on Music.” He transferred to The University of Berkley and graduated in 1970. He was the first to play classical violin in the streets of San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles before anyone else and was written up in Rolling Stone Magazine. He began a career in live performances and studio recordings and to date he has contributed to over 550 motion picture scores and 450 cd’s & records. He has performed with such iconic musicians as Sir Elton John, Barry Manilow, Sammy Davis Jr., Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, and Jewel to name just a few. His music appears on many popular Warner Brothers tv shows and he continues to perform and compose music today.
