Get ready to sleep in SUPREME SLUMBER!!!! WOW!! We have a STUNNING vintage California King sized bed, including headboard, platform, and pair of nightstands by Glenn of California that is EXACTLY what you need to set your bedroom apart from ALL others!! The whole set has a lovely fresh coat of off white or vanilla colored lacquer, and it looks INCREDIBLE! Let’s talk about the platform surface first. It takes a California King sized mattress so it’s a little longer than a standard king. It has a recessed plinth base giving a floating appearance and has the original fluorescent lighting underneath the platform and some age related spots here and there still remain. See note above about changing the lighting if you so desire. Now, about this marvelous headboard! It has a wonderful pop-up head rest feature with an aluminum strip detail and gray velvet padded cushions so you can prop up your pillows and lean back in comfort and in the morning, they tuck down inside the cabinet leaving an aesthetically pleasing smooth surface. Plus, there is ample storage space inside for extra pillows or items you may want to tuck away. And finally, the marvelous nightstands. They are a waterfall style with two drawers trimmed with aluminum strip details bearing bullnose side pulls and recessed bases. They just bump up to each side of the headboard making it convenient for moving and shipping purposes, but you could attach them to the headboard if you want. It is Modern to Postmodern in style with a bit of Art Deco Revival flair and we think it would look phenomenal blended with your Contemporary, Hollywood Regency, or Mid-Century Modern pieces or of course, mixed with your modern, postmodern, or art deco revival furnishings. We fell in love with it the moment we saw it and know you have too.
Glenn of California was owned by father and son team Isaac and Robert Baron and based in Arcadia California and has been credited for being at the forefront of the West Coast modernist design movement in the 1940’s and 1950’s. The company made a name for itself when it hired Milo Baughman. They would go on to hire Swedish architect and designer Greta Magnusson-Grossman, the first woman to receive an award from the Swedish Society of Industrial Design. The significant furniture line she and Baughman designed called the California Modern Collection became known for its laid-back Los Angeles style and integration of walnut, iron, and Formica. Glenn of California collaborated with many notable designers including Kipp Stweart, Paul Laslo, John Kapel, & Stanley Young. Although Glenn of California is no longer in business, their high-end vintage furniture is sought after today.
There’s nothing quite as luxurious as a beautiful bed! Don’t let this phenomenal California King sized one with headboard, platform, and pair of nightstands by Glenn of California go to someone else’s home! Make it YOURS!!!!
