Mid Century Modern Coffee Table with Black Base & Biomorphic Glass Top Style Kroehler Pearsall or Tonk

What a beautiful biomorphic BEAST!!!! WOW!!! This is a marvelous vintage mid-century modern style coffee table comprised of a black painted wood base and a biomorphic or kidney shaped glass top in the style of Kroehler, Adrian Pearsall, or Tonk Manufacturing Company. This savvy little coffee table certainly took us on a wild goose chase that I’m not sure is completely over! You can find this table all over the internet attributed to Adrian Pearsall. It is NOT designed by him. Of that we are sure. But definitely in his style so it is easy to see where the misattribution comes from. It is also attributed to Valentine Seever, which is not a single person but two last names. And it may have been promoted by them as they were a division of Kroehler Manufacturing Co. It has also been attributed to Tonk Manufacturing Co., best known for their antique piano and organ swiveling stools; but we have not found actual proof of that. My mother (a “veteran” vintage furniture expert) HAS seen in a 1950’s magazine advertisement for Kroehler featuring this coffee table surrounded by Kroehler upholstered furniture for which they are well known. She thinks it is possible it was made by Tonk for Kroehler; but we have decided that, regardless it’s maker,…. IT IS MAGNIFICENT!!! Also, its base is versatile. It can be positioned with the “legs” or base up, (which is how it was pictured in the 1950’s Kroehler ad,) or with the “legs” down, which is also lovely, or with a planter in the rectangular opening. It can hold books, magazines, or small decorative items there as well. It is a wonderful example of mid-century modern design and it is going to be wonderful in your living or family room or sitting area!!! No matter who actually designed and made this gorgeous table or whether you use it with the base up or down….. And considering this great story and intrigue…you know you simply MUST make it yours!
