John Mascheroni was born in 1932 and has been designing furniture since he began his working career. He studied Industrial Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and he worked at his father’s furniture factory where he learned to create reproductions of European antiques. Eventually he opened his own design practice with a showroom in New York’s elite D & D Building. He had many influences over the years including Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobson, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Mies van der Rohe, & Jean-Michel Frank but stated that he was most influenced by Charles & Ray Eames & George Nelson and their awareness of the human body and the ability to design furnishings ergonomically appropriate. His famed 1966 design of the “Tubo Table” is in a collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Today he is a spirited 90 years old and has been working with Lazar Furniture for the last few years and he retains his passion, energy and commitment to design.
