This mid-century modern studio stoneware plate is absolutely fabulous!! It is 9.5 inches in diameter with a charcoal gray glaze that has steel blue highlights with an interesting geometric design of silver and gold lines. It is signed on the reverse Jack Wright. Jack, 1923-2015, is a renowned Kansas artist. He was born in Watsontown, Pennsylvania the youngest of 13 siblings and served in WWII as a B24 navigator with the 448 Bomber Group, 8th AF. He then received his BFA from Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburg, PA followed by his MFA from the New York college of Ceramics at Alfred. After marrying fellow artist Rebecca (Rinearson) Wright, he worked as Professor of Fine Art at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas from 1957 through 1988. His pieces are in collections across the US and beyond. This stoneware piece is exceptional. We believe it to be circa 1960s-1970s. from not only its design but from the other pieces from the estate from which it was obtained. It is beautiful and will make a great addition to any collection.
