Description
Well now… this full-figured four-some is quite FABULOUS… to say the least!!!! WOW!!! This magnificent set of 4 fine art prints unsigned by Alfonso Vila Shum sketches are fun, festive, and simply FANTASTIC!!! Each sketch bears a different PHENOMENAL drawing of silly & eccentric images or figures beautifully matted & framed two horizontal and two vertical. They are numbered and named as #1 Bus Stop, #2 Housewife, #3 At the Beach, and #4 Promenade. They have had QUITE an incredible journey so far in their life and now they are ready to grace your home with their magnificence. Joan Liberty owned Liberty Gallery which was located in the French Quarter on Royal Street in New Orleans for 40 years. After Hurricane Katrina occurred in 2005, she moved to Warner Robins, Georgia and closed the gallery. She owned the original Alfonso Vila Shum sketches and made these prints from his original sketches before she passed away in 2006. They were placed in a presentation folder and we aren’t exactly sure how they made their way to Kansas… but we sure are glad they did! They were obtained by my parents and taken to Stephen Smith… accomplished photographer & owner of Stephen Smith Gallery located in Topeka, Kansas where they were newly framed on December 16th, 2022. The mats are composed of 100% rag cotton acid free museum grade from Crescent and the glass is Museum Glass with a 99% UV rating. The cleaning instructions are on the back of each piece. Alfonso Vila Shum was primarily known for his earlier paintings that were rich in color and expressed a spectacular Spanish influence however, in 1931 he also began creating lighthearted drawings with caustic humor within his characteristic images… much like caricatures. He also had an impressive reputation internationally due to his fantastic illustrations in volumes of Edgar Allen Poe and Oscar Wilde novels. This group of four is obviously much more whimsical than what you may find in a Poe novel, and we are sure they have already stolen your heart. There are many ways to display this marvelous set of four whether in a cluster, one above the other-stacked vertically, all four horizontally, two side-by-side and two beneath, or whatever arrangement you choose! They are going to be marvelous on ANY wall. Fun fact… noted Spanish poet & critic Manuel Allolaguirre once said, “The paintings of SHUM are like rivers of color that illustrate the dreams of men.” Well, you’re not dreaming here folks… these are for REAL!! You NEED these printed sketches!!! Do it… make them YOURS!!!
