Excuse Me?? You want me to wash WHAT? And you want me to wash it… WHERE??? Um… Not in THIS Century, Sir… LOL… However, in the Late 19th to Early 20th Century, this magnificent wash basin stand was quite an extravagant tool for the privileged person. And today… well, it’s still an extravagant (and also functional) sculptural masterpiece!!! This is a fantastic antique Chinese wash basin stand composed of a tall, narrow Asian hardwood red lacquered frame elaborately hand carved and gilded with birds & foliage motifs, topped with a gloriously hand carved, gilded crown with a rectangular opening below hosting a narrow hanging or towel bar, a red lacquered tray in the center above an ornately detailed drawer with a metal rig pull, and a marvelous decoratively hand carved geometric stretcher between the base legs. These stands were traditionally used to hold a wash basin, a pitcher, and laundering accessories but THANK GOODNESS for modern plumbing!!! I mean, I’m still not a super fan of doing the laundry, not EVEN with my updated front-loaders… but seriously… NO, thank you!!! You’ve GOT to admire the folks in that era!! And, yes… I’m a bit spoiled; I get it!! Luckily, these marvelous stands have many other re-purposed forms of use!! It’s got an EXQUISITE presence and would be a fabulous, functioning piece at the front door entry to catch your keys, mail, or sunglasses, hosting a lovely lamp or sculpture, utilized as a plant stand, but quite frankly this sculptured beauty is a piece of artwork on its own. This antique washstand is ideal for any room that could use a splash of sophisticated Chinese representation and artistic contemplation. It’s definitely a conversation piece and it’s EXACTLY what the designer ordered! Don’t be a “Wash-up…” LOL… It’s simple, “clean up” your act… and make it YOURS!!!
