Mid-Century Modern Smoke Gray/Grey Lucite and Chrome Table Lamp

SL-Mid-Century Modern Smoke Gray/Grey Lucite and Chrome Table Lamp

Grey or gray or smoke? Lucite or plexiglass or acrylic? Whichever way you spell it or whatever you call it, this Mid-Century Modern lamp is fabulous. The body of the lamp consists of two pieces of bent Lucite which form four bowed wings mounted on a round chrome base surrounding a chrome cylindrical shaft. In the middle of each of the two folded spline of plexiglass are chrome candle bases, each a different height, which hold a candelabra bulb. We have added a new gray tweed-ish semi-drum lamp shade. You may turn on just the accent candelabra bulbs, just the main lamp bulb or both. The total effect is awesome. The lamp is in wonderful vintage condition, however not without any hints of use. There are minute cracks in the Lucite where the screws go through to attach it to the chrome shaft small scratches to the Lucite which look much worse in the photos than in person; and, someone during this great lamps life used a bulb in the candle bases with too high wattage and caused a slight ripple to the Lucite as well. None of these are noticeable except upon close inspection.

Mid Century Modern Black and White Ceramic Lamps w/ Rooster Design, Pair

Mid Century Modern Black and White Ceramic Lamps w/ Rooster Design, Pair

Just look at this handsome pair of Mid-Century Modern lamps with their eye popping black and white coloration and the wonderful stylized rooster design on the body. The lamp base is shaped similar to a ewer without a spout but with that long neck and bulbous bottom and single thin swooping handle. The body of the ewer shape is porcelain or ceramic and the black portions (the handle, foot and trim between the two porcelain pieces) are some kind of cast metal. No marking that I can find anywhere so maker is unknown but no matter because this pair of Mid-Century Modern lamps is just full of style! They are in great vintage condition. One lamp is perfect the other has two hairline cracks in the neck portion of the ewer shape; however, these lamps are coming from our personal collection which we have had for 20 plus years and the cracks have been there all that time without changing. We have added the new little black lamp shades. Don’t wait to purchase this handsome pair.

Two Moe Lighting Honeycomb Wall Sconces in Emerald Blue & Tangerine Gold

Two Moe Lighting Honeycomb Wall Sconces in Emerald Blue & Tangerine Gold

Holy honeycomb Batman!! Are these not the most awesome and beautiful and funky and fun wall sconces!? They are from the Honeycomb Collection of lights by Moe Lighting and circa 1960s. Comprised of a brass plated round escutcheon and arched arm which hold the socket that is cover by a white opaque glass cylindrical globe. The globe is then covered by a honeycomb plexiglass shade in two contrasting color horizontal bands with brass plate top and bottom ring and vertical trim pieces. The shade is shorter than the glass diffuser allowing it to show at the top and bottom. The whole is nothing short of fantastic! We have one in the emerald-blue color combo and one in what we are pretty sure is tangerine-gold, but it could be cranberry-pink. However, we think it looks red-gold. We have priced them per sconce due to their differing colors; however, we will give you pair price. Just let us know.

Moe Lighting has quite the history and story but way too long to try to relay here. You should give them a quick online look. But they have been around since the early 20th century and are best known for their Atomic Sputnik ceiling light so sought after today.

These sconces are beyond magnificent and should be yours. Buy one or both.

Original Vintage Pair Folk Tramp Art Popsicle Stick Lamps

Original Vintage Pair Folk Tramp Art Popsicle Stick Lamps

We just love these lamps so much! They scream of nostalgia yet fit right in with today’s eclectic decors. These tramp art folk art lamps were made sometime 1950s or before. There is an old return address paper sticker on each lamp with the name Robert Elmore with a PO box number in Oakdale, West Virginia and no zip code so had to be before 1963. Whether he made them or whether he was an owner, we do not know. But I visualize Robert in his 1950s rec room carefully constructing these from piles and piles of Popsicle sticks using a pattern he found in Field and Stream or some hobby magazine. The pattern this pair’s maker used included a helix shape for the lamp base and an interesting shaped twelve-sided shade. I learned quite a bit researching these about Popsicles and how they were accidentally invented – you should google it! But first you should make these lamps your own.

Kila Red Dog Rolling Table Lamp by Harry Allen for IKEA

Kila Red Dog Rolling Table Lamp by Harry Allen for IKEA

OK I never thought I would say IKEA and original awesome design in the same sentence but here you have it! This incredible table task lamp was designed in 2001 exclusively for IKEA by Harry Allen Designs. He and it won accolades worldwide for its fabulous design. Harry’s inspiration for this rolling task light was his life-long interest in roller skating. Its tripod base is supported by rubber wheels which allow it to move in circles. Designer, Harry Allen, is quoted as saying “Kila spins on its axis as if it had been practicing that move in the roller rink for decades.” This bright red lamp is so reminiscent of 1960s cutting edge design yet feels futuristic at the same time. And although it originally sold for IKEAs super low pricing has now, as with the great designs through the ages, become collectable and sought after.

Harry Allen is an award-winning designer born1964 in New Jersey. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Alfred University and his master’s in industrial design from Pratt Institute in NYC. He founded Harry Allen Design NYC in 1993. That same year he produced a line of furniture called Living Systems and since has designed internationally with a wide variety of clients and products. He has work in the permanent collection of MoMA, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Denver Museum of Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art as well as earning many design awards.

We found this lamp sitting atop a George Nelson Action Office desk. Who would have ever thought……Herman Miller and IKEA together! You need to make this recent icon of good design yours!

Christopher Spitzmiller Blanc De Chine Three Ball Large Ceramic Lamp

Christopher Spitzmiller Blanc De Chine Three Ball Large Ceramic Lamp

When I found this lamp, I was not familiar with Christopher Spitzmiller. I should have been. I just knew it was gorgeous and very well executed. I learned quickly, his lamps are phenomenal and have become immediate classics. This example is called the Three Ball in the large size and blanc de chine color. Its shape is exactly what the name suggests three graduated stacked balls sitting atop a hand turned wood base that has been water gilded with 23k yellow gold and topped with a brass double socket cluster. We have added the beautiful silk-like fabric drum shade in a buff color which accents the white of the lamp and gold of the base perfectly. There isn’t a style or table this lamp will not look fantastic with or sitting upon!

Christopher Spitzmiller began his career in 1996 in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. and his one-of-a-kind lamps quickly became instant classics sought after by designers such as Albert Hadley and Richard Keith Langham. In 1999 he moved to New York City and expanded his workshop with a crew of skilled craftspeople. His work has been featured in most major design magazines as well as The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He produced lamps for Obama’s Oval Office and many other distinguished American homes. With his success in lamps he has expanded his repertoire to include tableware, decorative accessories, mirrors and furniture.

We know you have fallen in love with this lamp. You should just make it yours!

Large Beaux Arts Black & Gilt Floor Lamp with Handmade Shade & Teardrop Pendants

Large Beaux Arts Black & Gilt Floor Lamp with Handmade Shade & Teardrop Pendants

Whoa! We love this lamp! We are calling it Beaux Arts, but it borders on Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Victorian. And we have added little touches that make it rather Hollywood Regency. So, you can pick your style….just be sure you pick this marvelous lamp. It has a round tapered wood shaft that has been lacquered black with a molded plaster or gesso hexagon base and a rather inverted trefoil plaster gesso capital. Both have been gilded and freshly touched up over old chips in the plaster which add a certain charm. Three small screw-eyes under the three arms of the capital, where tassels or crystals would have originally hung, hold large contemporary teardrop pendants which we have added for fun. All of this is topped by the magnificent and monumental off-white silk-like shade, which is the original shade form that has been recovered. We think this shade is somewhat Victorian or Asian in style and utterly phenomenal. So, if you are looking for a show stopping floor lamp. You have found it! Make it yours.

Small Scale Mid Century Modern Walnut and Brass Lamp Style of Laurel Lamp Mfg. Co.

Small Scale Mid Century Modern Walnut and Brass Lamp Style of Laurel Lamp Mfg. Co.

We are loving this little lamp here at the shop. It came in with a group of other lovely mid-century modern pieces and because of its diminutive size was rather brushed aside till we had time for it. Well…….if we had only known, we would have put it right up front. After totally restoring it, both its finish and workings, we fell in love. It is comprised of a solid walnut rectangular frame which is suspended by the brass shaft running through the middle of it which attaches it to the square walnut base. It is topped by its original small textured ecru shade with a brown ribbon-like top trim bordered in gold cord and a gold cord bottom trim.
