These gorgeous chairs have really puzzled us here at the shop. Are they Art Nouveau? Are they Art Deco? Or, maybe a little Victorian? They also have a somewhat Asian flair. Hmmmmm? No matter what style they are, they are stunning! The wood of their curvy shield back outlines the fabric beautifully and I can’t decide which is more lovely….the back or the front. The seat has a generous depth with a gently inward curve on both sides for the sitter’s comfort. The legs are simple. The front ones are straight, and the back have a slight curve. But their stretchers from front to back are exceptional…straight at first and then a spiral, arch, and curve. There is a cross stretcher attached at the highest point going side to side. The details abound. And, their ivory colored upholstery accents the frame perfectly. So, we may not know what style to definitively call these…but you should call them yours!

Art Nouveau or Art Deco Shield Back Antique Dining Chairs Set of Four
Incredible Art Nouveau or Art Deco set of four dining chairs with shield shaped backs and lots of detail. They are in wonderful original antique condition. They are very solid. The wood frames have lots of beautiful age patina including nicks and dings and wear. The original upholstery has been professionally cleaned and is in exceptionally great condition apart from a few small rust spots to the seats. I would not be concerned with using them as is, but some may want to recover. They are priced accordingly. Circa early 20th century.
