Holy Cow! This is a very unusual Dorothy Thorpe piece. I have only seen this one in person, and only a couple others listed online. So, leads me to believe it is somewhat rare. It is an amazing candelabra comprised of five branches and looks somewhat like a tree or maybe a cactus. The complete white ceramic base is plated in a silver-like material. However, it does not seem to tarnish so most likely not sterling. It is embossed on the bottom with Silver 5 Branch Candelabra and retains the original Dorothy C. Thorpe Inc. sticker. This wonderful piece is not without some age-related flaws. However, they do not detract from its overall awesome look. Please examine the photos.
Ms. Thorpe, like her contemporaries George Briard and Fred Press, designed but did not manufacture her stunning creations. Her wonderful designs were created using sandblasting, silver overlay and paint speckle on simple blank glassware and ceramic from U.S. and European manufacturers. You know this is a must have. Make it yours.
