Handsome mid-century modern extension dining table #1528 with two leaves for the Planer Group designed by Paul McCobb for Winchendon. It is in wonderful original vintage condition. That does not mean it is without age appropriate signs of wear; however, we have found nothing outstanding. It has a nice warm patina to its maple and original walnut finish. Please see photos. Circa 1949-1964.
Note: We do have a 1/4 piece of glass which the original owners kept on the table in its smallest size without the leaves. Please tell us at time of purchase if you wish us to ship the glass as well.

We were given the first chance to obtain the items from a gorgeous original mid-century modern home by the daughters. When I saw everything, I knew we had to have it to offer to you. This gorgeous Paul McCobb Planner Group for Winchendon dining table is but one of the fabulous items. It is comprised of maple with a walnut finish and is magnificent in its simplicity but attention to detail and scale. The table when closed with its thick edge rectangular top supported by its slender tapered legs which are squared at the top and gracefully and slowly become round at the foot is stunning. But add one or two leaves which, by the way, have the same edge profile as the main table so you would never know you have inserted leaves, and you expand not only seating capacity but beauty as well. The Planner Group in its time was considered one of America’s foremost coordinated groups of contemporary furniture. It obtained widespread acclaim and honors. It was praised by designers and architects for its simplicity, scale, refined lines and its variety. It still is today.
Paul McCobb (1917-1969), is a 20th Century design genius. He wanted to be an artist from childhood and studied drawing and painting for a time but left his studies to enlist in the Army in 1942. Only serving a short time and was medically discharged in 1943. McCobb’s design genius was first noticed while working as a design and decorating consultant for Martin Feinman’s Modernage Furniture in New York City in 1948. While there he met B.G. Mesberg who later became his business partner in the Planner and Directional furniture lines. He won many awards and is represented in museums around the world. His other well-known furniture lines are Predictor, Calvin Group, Directional, Irwin Group, and Connoisseur Collection. Paul McCobb’s trend-making designs were an influence in all facets of the home furnishing field during the mid-century modern era. They proved to be classics and are widely sought after by collectors today.
