It was manufactured by OMK in England which is owned by Rodney Kinsman and is comprised of a rounded triangular chromed steel tube cantilever base, a chromed steel double tube column or shaft mounted with a comfortable chromed steel “tractor style” seat. It is a shorter chair height rather than a taller counter height so it will be wonderful at a vanity, desk, or at the front door for a stylish place to take off your shoes. Rodney Kinsman founded OMK in 1965 along with Jurek Olejnik and Bryan Morrison and they have been producing iconic furniture regarded as classics under his direction ever since. In 1971 Rodney Kinsman designed the enormously successful “Omstak” chair with a tubular steel frame, seat and back of molded sheet steel coated with epoxy resin. The quirky holes in the seat and back actually make the chair more stable. Regarded as the epitome of 1970s high-tech design, the “Omstak” chair is still made by the Italian firm of Bieffeplast. In 1981 Rodney Kinsman designed the “Graffiti” shelving system, also for Bieffeplast, with a single steel support for each unit and in the 80’s he designed numerous other functional pieces including the Vienna chair, the Tokyo chair range, the Sevilla aluminum row seating, the Trax chair system, and one of the most successful seating pieces for OMK, the Transit. Mr Kingsman was made a Fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers in 1983 and in 1988 an Honorary Fellow des Royal College of Art. -designaddict
