You know how there are some things you totally love because you can see the artist’s hand? This. This is one of those awesome pieces of utilitarian art. This vintage tribal storage basket is in the style of the wonderful baskets from the Karen peoples of Burma. It is woven of bamboo with rattan staves and wood for support in the bottom. It has been coated with a product of some sort both inside and out. Possibly lacquer or something that may have been meant to help hold liquid in or make it waterproof. There is a piece of fabric adhered to the bottom apparently to help keep it sturdy or accomplish keeping it watertight. I love these details of the artistry of the maker and the way it feels to my touch as well as its beauty! We have used it here in the shop to hold a tall artificial orchid as you can see in the photos. We hope you love it as much as we do. Make it yours.
