Get ready for this vintage lantern table lamp to HIT YOU like a HURRICANE!!! Well, that’s technically what it is, so… LOL!!! This is a wonderful vintage hurricane lantern table lamp or accent lamp composed of a stunning orange & gold painted round metal base featuring a lovely turned wood candle stick holding a white plastic faux candle & a brown electric cord below the base surrounded by a clear glass cylindrical body or “chimney.” It is topped with a decorative orange & yellow painted metal lid with perforated ventilation holes and a lovely decorative brass finial and stands oh-so-proudly upon four fabulous round brass feet. What IS a hurricane lantern you may ask?? Well, there are several styles and depending on the circa… they function with anything between oil, kerosene, or a more modern interpretation with an electric cord. They were designed to remain lit in windy or stormy conditions typically with a glass body or “chimney” to protect the flame from the strong drafts & breeze and perforated ventilation holes in the lid to permit the egress of air while keeping the flame from being extinguished. Some had handles and were easily carried from room to room and were historically used on ships, for camping, or simply as a portable light source in the home. Over time, the design evolved from purely functional to decorative lighting with ornate frames, bright colors, & hand painted accents. Cool, huh? We think so! And, THIS one bears an all-over antiqued or distressed “perfectly imperfect” vintage patina that we feel extenuates it’s magnificent aged character. It’s pretty large with a 10” Diameter & 28” height to the top of the brass finial and it’s going to be fantastic on a table in an entry, a sofa table in a living or family room, on a desk in your den or study, or out in your sunroom or on an accent table on your Floridian lanai.
