This is a fabulous antique Chinese Ming style waisted opium bed or Monumental sized low coffee table composed of a wonderful walnut toned solid hardwood bearing a beautiful wood grain and a gorgeous natural aged patina. The table is waisted under a marvelous rectangular planked top surface, and it features a discreet decorative detail of pierced slots surrounded by (1 piece!) raised wood beading in the waist. If you know about 1 piece beading, you know it means that it’s a LOT of time, attention to detail, and shows a concern for high quality in the piece!! Plus, it’s subtle, but oh-so-stunning!! The whole table is raised upon charming chow legs with intricately hand carved beading (also 1 piece!) between the legs and visible marks in the wood resulting from hand carving… talk about character!!! Now, IYKYK (if you know, you know) the history behind the Chinese Opium daybed, let’s just say, we aren’t recommending that activity, but to each their own. You would toss down a mattress of a non-specific size, sit down either solo or with a friend & enjoy conversation and “hence the name” indulge in whatever you decide to “put in your pipe!!” Well… as interesting as that may be, we think it would be even more awesome used as a coffee table!
