Description
Well, what have we here? Is it a beautiful cast-brass urn? Yes. OR is it a lovely Asian or Philippine wedding vessel? Also, Yes. What about a Gorgeous Gador (also spelled Gadur)? Yes… That is also correct!!! Whatever you choose to call it, this is an INCREDIBLE vintage Asian Islamic Philippine Wedding Vessel or Mindanao Maranao Urn comprised of a cast brass vessel with a bulbous body covered in etched or molded decorative motifs, a concave foot or base, and a domed lid finished with a spire top. The inside of the vessel is composed of inlaid cast brass with a purposed patina and if you look up inside the concave foot it has a piece of tin which we think may have been a fun vintage fix to cover a hole or something. If it could only talk!! HA! These containers were presented as gifts of exchange among wealthy Muslim Maranao families in the Philippines on Mindanao Island. Such objects indicated wealth and status and they were also given as impressive gifts given at ceremonies and weddings. The association with weddings is suggested by the long spire top on the lid as it is the shape of Rosewater sprinklers. Rosewater is used as part of a wedding ritual among Malays like people of Southeast Asia. It will be beautiful on a mantle above the fireplace, on the desk in your study, or maybe in a display filled with Uncle Joe’s ashes… KIDDING!!! LOL!!!! This is an exceptional cast brass vessel with a distinct vintage architectural presence that you are sure to fall in love with. So, what are you waiting for?? Make it YOURS!!!
