Description
Rway Furniture….to create charm in your home… is how a 1951 magazine ad reads for this gorgeous low dresser. And, were they right or what!? This piece is full of charm. Comprised of three full width drawers adorned by delicately draped pulls and placed inside a chest perched atop four sweetly curved legs. The ends of the top have a slight beveled edge giving a softer look. Almost rounded. There is a wonderful floral carving right below the top immediately above the first drawer. The top, sides, and drawer fronts are definitely light mahogany; however, the leg platform and the frame of the chest itself may be another species of wood that has escaped our power of detection. All the details combine to make this dresser an exceptionally beautiful piece of Art Deco styled furniture. Rway Furniture wasoriginally founded in 1881 as Mattoon Manufacturing Co. and changed to Northern Furniture Co. in 1904 upon the death of its founder George B. Mattoon. In 1949 it was named Rway and over the years operated a chain of 12 showrooms across the country. Their operation ceased in 1993. According to a 1947 and a 1951 magazine ad, this style bedroom suite was produced at that time. We have been unable to find whether it was produced prior to 1947 or after 1951. Great history. Great quality. Great style. You need to make it yours.
