This is a fabulous dresser and mirror from Drexel’s “Today’s Living” collection which debuted in 1952 and was designed by none other than the iconic Milo Baughman. This collection is considered one of Drexel’s most outstanding design realizations and an important achievement in the American modern design movement. This dresser and massive mirror are made with a surprising and unusual choice of figured grain elm wood that’s grain has both warm walnut and wonderful honey-colored tones. The eight-drawer front is embellished by no added hardware only the beautiful horizontal grain of the wood and the sleek recessed handles. The sides are comprised of vertically cut elm wood with rounded corners which stop gracefully when meeting the drawers. The cabinet proper is placed upon an elm stretcher with two curved side panel “feet”. The piece retains its original Drexel stamped label on an inside drawer and its model number and manufacture date of 9/52 on its back. The massive wall hung mirror can be used with the dresser or is substantial enough to stand on its own. The mirror silvering does have some age patina and the dresser does have an age patina too as you would expect for its 65 years. There are a few nicks and dings and age spots as well as small places where veneer is chipped. Nothing that would stop me from stationing this cabinet in a place of honor whether it is in the bedroom, living room, dining room or entry; but, please examine the photos. I’m sure you have just the place to display this unprecedented piece of furniture.
