Description
Incredible pair of circa 19th century Sabbath Russo-Polish candlesticks. They are each marked with the inscription Fraget N Plaque (translated means: Fraget silver plate on Alpacca) placed in an oval and on one side is what I believe to be the metalsmith’s mark and the other side the double eagle Russian coat of arms along with the number 4222. Each domed circular base and fluted column stem is raised on three fruit decorated feet and topped with a flared cup with crimped serpentine rim all decorated with repousse floral and berry motif. These lovely candlesticks must have been used and cherished as they are showing that use and age with dings and dents and cracks and the silver plate is mostly worn off leaving the most gorgeous patina. All combined, making them much more beautiful and interesting than if they were highly polished. Can you imagine the stories they could tell? Make them yours.
