Abernathy Furniture was a wholesale & retail furniture company founded in 1856 by James L. Abernathy and his brothers and was based in Leavenworth, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. It was one of the earliest and most successful businesses in the state at that time. The company’s large warehouse was located in the Kansas City West Bottoms district that has been repurposed and converted into a modern urban apartment living space and is now considered a historic landmark. There is not a lot of information concerning the later years or knowledge or material regarding the closing of the company in the 1950’s however, their furnishings are still sought after in the United States.
