Abstract Art Definition: Art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures. Perfectly Defined… This is a GORGEOUS vintage Abstract Mixed Media large scale 3D collage by accomplished artist & painter Martha Holden. It is composed of a flat rectangular paper backing bearing a darker shade of purple and stenciled or screen printed images and a 3 dimensional folded paper over the flat paper in exquisite colors of purple, pink, red, and a splash of blue also bearing painted screen style stencils, shadows, and splatters of paint thrown & splashed across the piece and it’s encased in a fabulous plexiglass shadow box. With measurements of 65 ¼ W x 45 ½ H it is Large Scale to say the least!! It’s MARVELOUS!!! The tag on the back reads: Fidelity Arts of California/ Holden Folded Paper/ HOL 2949/ P45/ R-49. Fidelity Arts of California has been in business for over 25 years and is proud to be a minority & woman owned business in California. LOVE IT!! So, today I’m feeling silly and this makes me think of myself in the kitchen… the not-so-fabulous cook that I am doing my best to put together a beautiful dessert for my family. A wonderful pie or pastry, maybe a cake or a croissant filled with a yummy fruit filling! YES!! Mmmmmmm, they will LOVE this!! You know, SO much work, time, ingredients, patients, and quite frankly, skill goes into baking! But it’s all worth it to see the love and gratitude in their eyes and the look of pure pleasure-of-the-pallet when they take that first perfect delectable bite!!! Well, at least that’s what I was hoping for but… ALAS… Once again, I have failed… baking is NOT my forte… I have created a CULINARY CATASTROPHE!!! It is NASTY to say the least… and it makes me sad… no, mad… no, downright ANGRY! All of that time… blood, sweat, and TEARS!!! For nothing!! So, being the mature, tolerant woman that I am… I THROW the pastry across the kitchen and HURL the blueberries and CHUCK strawberry frosting…I FLING the flour and CAST the cooling rack into the angry abyss of rejected desserts… I am UNHAPPY to say the least!!!! SIGH!!! I gather my composure and take a deep flour filled breath as my fit of ridiculous rage has ceased. I turn in anxious expectation to begin the cleanup of my unholy mess… But… Wait, what is THIS??? WOW!!! How can this be?!? My marvelous messy MASTERPIECE is staring back at me and IT. IS. Abstractly BEAUTIFUL!!! Although I still wouldn’t eat it… LOL!!! Oh, the beauty of Abstract Art!! Tomorrow it may give off another vibe! And while it may be time for me to look into anger management, what do you see? It would be stunning in an entry way, above your bed in the master bedroom, on the wall in your living or family room, or in your dining area on a large wall. It’s Postmodern Contemporary Abstract in style and sure to make a BIG, BOLD, BEAUTIFUL statement on whatever wall it’s placed. (If it were mine I would probably keep it out of my kitchen, but that’s a personal issue!! HaHa!!)
