In 1902 the Hickory Manufacturing Co. factory was founded in Catawba County, N.C. They focused only on making bedroom furniture. The White Furniture Company was founded in 1881 in Mebane, North Carolina. These two companies operated separately in North Carolina for many years, both establishing elite reputations as premier manufacturing companies. Until 1988 they joined companies and merged operations into the Hickory Manufacturing Co. facility in Hickory, N.C., united their names, and became known as the Hickory White Company.
