Wow! This is an awesome pair of tin candelabra with five lites each held by a series of loops and circles from a tapered shaft and weighted punched tin base. Made in Mexico and the style of the famed William Spratling they will grace your table or sideboard beautifully. Spratling is best known for his silver decorative items and jewelry but his shop also employed craftsmen working in tin, copper, and textiles. Since the 1500’s Hojalata or tin artwork has been one of the most beautiful expressions of Mexican folk art. And the craftsmen from Spratling’s shop shaped, stamped, punched, and cut this humble material into his gorgeous designs with skill and expertise. Most of these craftsmen went on, with Spratling’s help and blessings, to start their own studios and shops to continue this long used yet little know, until then, form of Folk Art. This pair of candelabra is a wonderful mid-20th century example. You must make them yours.
