Description
For over a century this beautiful and interesting wicker rattan chair with its peacock like fan back has been showing its face, or should I say tail, in pop culture and the cyclical work of interior design. Its latest resurgence is calling on its popularity during the 1960s and 1970s pop culture. Originally designed in East Asia as a throne-like head framing seat reserved for royalty it is no wonder it became the place for celebrities to be photographed. Just a few of the celebrities who did so are Brigitte Bardot, Bette Davis, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton, Katherine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Plant, Jasper John; and, let’s not forget the partially clad Sylvia Kristel in her famous scenes from the cult film series Emmanuel. I’m dubbing these chairs Bohemian Hollywood Regency but don’t let that limit what styles you use them with because they look equally as fantastic juxtaposed with the clean lines of a mid-century modern aesthetic, a rustic or country décor, and even the stately traditional. These chairs do not take a back seat in any room with their unconventional fanned-plume back shape perched on hourglass shaped bases. I think everyone’s porch, patio, terrace, deck, lanai, or living room deserves these chairs. Make this set yours.
