Description
Wow! This large deep bowl is a gorgeous example of Mexican Tlaquepaque pottery with its beautiful terracotta colored glaze and hand painted emerald green pattern. This pattern is called Fantasia with its stylized deer and foliage. The Fantasia style is tourist pottery from the Guadalajara area that has become extremely popular with collectors. Although this piece features a stylized deer you could just as easily find fantasized images of many other animals and flowers on other Fantasia design pieces with some even displaying highly stylized people. The Fantasia pattern is done in many bright hues including this emerald green, a cobalt blue, canary yellow, and I believe a bright red. It is painted on both terracotta base glazes and a creamy off white. New pieces of this old design can be found but you can most often easily tell the difference by the smoothness of the clay. This piece is vintage mid-20th century. It will be stunning wherever you place it whether on a mantle, bookshelf, display case, or table. We are totally in love with it here. You should make it yours.
