What a fun little mid-century modern convertible sofa. Settee? Loveseat? Armless sofa? Bench? A rose by any other name…….!!! Anyway, I digress. It is a great piece no matter what we call it. I am sticking with convertible sofa. It is comprised of a black vinyl faux leather bench seat and button tuck back (no arms). It all is lifted off the floor by four turned wood legs. The back has a wood strip attached to its backside which is then attached to a wood frame with dowels allowing it to pivot or flip up and around to provide the full depth of the seat to be used, I assume, as a sleeping spot. Very clever construction by Universal of High Point circa 1950s. It looks exceptionally good for its age and I would use it as is, but it does have a couple little areas in the seams of the seat where they have been repaired that may bother some. So, look carefully. We have priced it accordingly. It would be perfect extra seating in many places. Maybe in an entry or mudroom to put on your shoes or boots! Its jaunty design lends itself to several design styles. Of course, mid-century modern but it would also look fabulous with industrial and modern country. You just need to make it yours!!

Handsome mid-century modern settee or loveseat sofa in black vinyl faux leather by Universal of High Point. It is in wonderful vintage condition. We have restored the wood, cleaned the vinyl, repaired a few spots where stitching was loose, and put on a new dustcover. But there are still little signs of age. Please see photos. Circa 1950s.
