This is an incredible and incredible comfortable sofa! It is part of the Encino Collection from Landes Manufacturing Company circa 1971 to 1979. The original chair, model 603, for this collection was designed by Byron Botker and Jerry Johnson; however, subsequent chairs, model #683, and a sofa are listed in the 1979 Landes Manufacturing catalog as credited only to Jerry Johnson. So, it is assumed, at some point after the Encino Collections introduction, and as the line was so successful, Johnson undertook designs expanding the line by himself but maintaining harmony of design between initial offerings and later additions. This sofa is in wonderful vintage condition. The chrome is great, the blackened wood shows some wear but happens to be rather appealing, but the cushions and fabric have seen better days. New fabric necessary as we have only patched these cushions up enough to be able to photograph the sofa to show how it looks with cushions. We leave the reupholstering to the end user. The difference between the 603 chair and the 683 chair and sofa is the positioning of the side rail. On the 603 it is lower and acts as a side rail making the chair more like a slipper chair and armless; but, on the 683 chair and this sofa is it higher to function as an arm. This sofa is a wonderful example of 1970s design and works very well with a mid-century design aesthetic. Use it anywhere your heart desires, just make it yours.
