This vintage bib style necklace consisting of eight wonderful bejeweled starfish hanging from a gold-tone double link chain and signed craft was made by the gem-craft corp we believe circa 1990. It is simply stunning! The three main starfish measure 1.75 inches and are adorned in the centre by 1/2 inch faceted topaz colored rhinestones which are surrounded by five bezel set amethyst colored cobochon 1/8 inch rhinestones. Five smaller 1-1/8 inch starfish with the same bezel set amethyst colored cobochon rhinestones in the centre of each starfish, adorn this necklace. Each large starfish is signed Craft © on the reverse side. The starfish themselves are a work of art. Each is made of a white enameled metal which is textured identical to a real starfish (I’d swear they used a real starfish for the mold.) and then the front is coated with clear amber-colored enamel. Just incredible! The necklace circumference is 16 inches and its hanging length is 7 inches with the bib length drop being almost 3 inches..
Gem-Craft Corp. was founded by Gene Verri and his son, Ron. Gene was a former designer with Coro during the 1960’s but left to start his own company. He designed jewelry for designers such as Oscar De La Renta and Kenneth Jay Lane and his designs were sold by iconic stores like I. Magnin in Beverly Hills. He worked at the bench until his death at age 101 on December 30, 2013.
