Have you been searching for the perfect centerpiece for your Holiday table this year? Your search is over! This is the Iconic Harvest Couple sculpted by Sylvia Hood and they are ready to grace your table or any other area of your home with their magnificence. They are painted so elegantly, and their detail is so precise it’s as if they should be able to tell you how wonderful they are themselves. The woman stands proudly grasping her beautiful orange bowl full of the freshly baked bread rolls she has just pulled from the oven. The gentleman has carefully chosen the perfect selection of vegetables from their garden and the couple is almost ready for their dinner party. The woman has picked out the perfect dress to coordinate with her man so they will be the best dressed couple at the gathering. Her dress is just above floor length and flows by her ankles in lovely shades of red-orange and yellow. Her buttons of black are snapped to her dainty neck where her collar is neatly folded. The man is dapperly dressed as well in his orange knickers and red checkered shirt. They are sure to be the most attractive couple at their event, but they would really like to be at yours! Search no more, these figurines are the perfect finishing touch to any room in your home.
Sylvia was a true mid-century artist. She decorated sets for “77 Sunset Strip” and a few other shows in California and she did a little “dabbling” in interior design. She was a painter, a sculptor, and loved driving her MG all around the streets of Pasadena. Her grandson told that she loved the song “The Little Old lady from Pasadena” By the Beach Boys and that she was “Just sure” it was written about her! Her logo gives a clue to some of the work that is rarer. She lived in Pasadena California in the early 1960’s when she began sculpting with a material known as Extone. It is comparable with the chalkware but according to her grandson, this was a material her husband Allen had developed for his work in aerospace. It is comprised of plaster of Paris, latex paint, and white glue, and perhaps a little sand. He used it for aerospace patterns, Allen Hood oversaw quality control for the Apollo 15 Command Module for North America/Rockwell. He had many top-secret projects he worked on such as Norden Bomb Sites in the Empire State Building.
Holiday or every day, the Harvest Couple is an exceptional conversation piece for your dinner table, kitchen shelf, breakfast nook, or anywhere you need a splash of color. They are sure to be just the right touch anywhere you place them. You need these, make them yours!!
