This is one of those pieces you just have to touch! Its gentle curves, smooth to rough surfaces, and slender neck cry out to be explored. Comprised of apricot wood and created by the expert hand of Doug Ayers, a pioneer in the modern woodworking movement that revolutionized the craft. This piece uses the natural forms and textures of the wood to their utmost beauty.
Doug Ayers was originally a physicist for NASA but retired to be an artist, that he really was and desired to be, fulltime. From Little River Beach in the redwood forests of Mendocino where he lived and had a gallery, he created a body of exceptional sculptural work. He was a pioneer in establishing fine woodworking as fine art. His sculptures range from small weed vases to large abstract sculptures. Unfortunately, he died tragically in 1986 from a peanut allergy.
This lovely vase will be perfect on your shelves, mantle, or coffee table. Make it yours.
