Buenilum was produced by the Buehner-Wanner company, which was founded by metalsmith and industrial designer Frederick Buehner and his business partner, Franz Wanner in 1944. Buehner-Wanner produced Buenilum from the 1940s through the 1960s. In 1969 the company was sold to the Pfaltzgraff company who continued to make Buenilum until 1979. Frederick Buehner had developed a unique formula for aluminum which he trademarked as Buenilum in 1933. Pieces marked with the initials BW flanking an image of a castle turret, along with the name Buenilum are considered antiques as of 2014. Buenilum is known for its fabulous workmanship and brilliant design with pieces held in museums’ permanent collections.
