Here is what you have been looking for. A barrister stacking bookcase by the celebrated Globe Wernicke Company. This one is an industrial styled bookcase but made of wood not metal. It has four separate stacking shelves, a top, and a bottom with four tapered block legs. Each shelf is outfitted with wood framed glass doors which lift and slide in to become invisible. It retains its original golden yellow painted finish with all its age-related wonderful patina and character. The knobs are rather miss-matched….half are round and half are square. We think it enhances the patina.
Globe Wernicke was an American furniture company based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founded in 1899 by the joining together of Globe Files Company and Wernicke Company. They were the king of stacking bookcases! They patented the elastic bookcases. These modular bookcases were built to the highest quality with a standard width of 34 inches to make a myriad of changing combinations by inserting of units of different depths, heights, and purpose. In 1955 Globe Wernicke was purchased by the City Auto Stamping Company. It then underwent several mergers and acquisitions until finally merging in 2000 with four other brands to become Cardinal Brands, Inc. of Lawrence, Kansas.
This striking stacking bookcase will look so cool in your industrial loft. Or as part of your modern country or rustic décor. You could even use it in your kitchen. You need to make it yours!
