This table takes HANDSOME to a whole new level!!! This is an incredible Scandinavian Modern style expanding flip-top table stamped by Carlo Jensen for Hundevad & Company. It is comprised of a solid rosewood frame and straight (slightly bowed) round tapered legs, rosewood veneer side aprons and one side of the flip-top while the other side bears a black leatherette or inlaid faux leather or surface with Rosewood edges. SO COOL!!! So, we have a slight dilemma… what do we call this shape? Every edge bows out slightly and both leaves have a concave bow where it connects to the main table… It’s a subtle but oh-so-stunning detail, but with that being said… we technically can’t call it a “square to rectangle” shape AND it’s also not as “rounded” as a squircle… so we can’t use that term either. It’s basically a slightly bowed or “curved square.” HEY, I know… we’re just going to call it “SWERVE…” Square + Curve… SWERVE!! Lol… You call it whatever shape you like… Let’s talk about the versatility encompassed in this table! It’s going to be fabulous utilized as a smaller table when dining for two or four or as a breakfast nook or game table BUT if you have friends or extended family over and need more places to seat guests, simply pull the leaves up out from under the table and attach at the ends to create a larger space and more seating. Plus, you have tabletop choices! A wonderful clean rosewood veneer surface with gorgeous wood grain on one side or beautiful black faux leather on the other! AWESOME!! The smooth clean lines of this quintessential Scandinavian Modern table will blend beautifully with many interior design styles from Danish Modern to Mid-Century Modern or Industrial to Minimalist. It is perfect for a game table in the family room, a smaller space with a growing family, someone who loves to entertain, or simply someone that likes to have options and versatility! Plus, the chair combinations are limitless. And if you’re looking for a set of chairs to accompany this masterpiece, we have several listed here for sale that would pair with it beautifully… check them out!!!
Carlo Jensen was born in 1913. He studied at the Copenhagen School of Architecture and began his momentous career as a Danish furniture designer who became highly active during the mid-20th century. While often compared to styles of his fellow designers such as Poul Hundevad, Arne Jacobsen, Fritz Hansen, and Hans Wagner; Carlo Jensen was best known for his minimalist and functional designs. He incorporated his innovative features and geometric forms with high-quality materials such as rosewood, teak, and leather. He had many extraordinary designs including the “Model 118” chair and the “Model 52” table (most notable) both simple and functional with clean, geometric forms. Mr. Jensen passed away in 2001, but he continues to be admired by enthusiasts and his designs are highly sought after today.
In the early 1950’s Poul Hundevad founded & based Hundevad & Company in Vamdrup, Denmark principally producing furniture by himself and by elite Danish designers like Carlo Jensen, Kaj Winding, Harald Plum and Mogens Plum. Over the years the company, along with many iconic designers designed various dining chairs, tray carts, sideboards, cabinets, trolley carts, and bookcases.
