6 Modern Style Vintage Dining Chairs Velvet Scoop Seats Bernhardt Flair for Hibriten

Awesome set of 6 vintage modern style scoop seat dining chairs in coffee-with-cream colored velvet by Flair for Hibriten. Flair was a division of Bernhardt Furniture. There are two armed host chairs and four armless side chairs. All are in wonderful vintage condition. I have noticed that three of the chairs are a slightly lighter tone than the other three. Since it is so consistent, I believe it was intentional. However, they have sun faded a bit where they were pushed under the table. Please see photos. Circa 1970s.

If you have been looking for just the right set of modern style chairs…….look no further! These are incredibly handsome. They have a gorgeous wood frame of oak or ash with lovely curved scoop seat and high backs. They are upholstered in their original velvet which is a warm and wonderful coffee-with-cream color. Although three of the chairs are of a slightly different tone, they look lovely together. There is some slight fading. They have their original tags underneath stating Flair for Hibriten Furniture. That places them circa 1970s not only from their modern design style, but the fact that by 1982 Bernhardt had dropped their Flair Division and the Hibriten Furniture name. This amazing set of six dining chairs are stunning and comfortable statement makers.

Bernhardt Furniture was established in 1889 by John Mathias Bernhardt and has been going strong for over 125 years. He spent many years out west in Oregon Territory. After a serious illness, traveling back home to Lenoir, North Carolina and working as a logger in the densely forested foothills of Grandfather Mountain. He went to work for Caldwell Land and Lumber Company and while working there he convinced them to build a railroad to move lumber and supplies. He then purchased his own sawmill and began buying timber. The next step of manufacturing his own furniture followed soon after bringing the birth of Bernhardt Furniture. He became known as a man of integrity, giving back to his community and for producing high quality furniture. A legacy was born. It was carried on and improved upon by his sons, George Bernhardt and John Christian Bernhardt, and eventually his grandson, Alex Bernhardt Sr. Through the years they grew, expanded, diversified, bought other companies, sold other companies, created divisions, and let them go. Two important names in all the comings and goings were Flair and Hibriten. Bernhardt Furniture remains a family owned company with Alex Bernhardt Jr. is now the 4th generation to be involved. They continue John Mathias’ legacy of integrity, high-quality furnishings, and giving back to their community.

These dining chairs are just what the designer ordered. You must make them yours!
