We could barely contain ourselves over this find of these seven original circa 1960s Spanish Revival Style dining chairs. Well really the find was a complete apartment clubhouse which was furnished in 1970. All the original furnishings were intact. This is but one of the treasures.
The style of the chair is somewhat like a ladderback chair but more ornate. Each chair is comprised of four straight legs with cross stretchers on all four sides. The stretchers on the back and two sides are straight and blocky like the legs themselves. However, the front stretcher is hand carved with a bold undulating design of Spanish flavor which matches the two stretchers of the ladderback. The back legs continue upward to become the siderails of the ladderback and end with a wonderful carved finial. Notice the mortise and tenon joints on the legs and stretchers. And, each has a handsome hand woven natural rush seat. They will look perfect around your primitive or rustic dining table in your Hacienda styles home or with your modern country, Southwestern, industrial or eclectic designed living space.
Artes de Mexico Internacionales, SA imported artisan handmade piece from Mexico to the US exclusively for sale to the trade. FYI to the trade means they were sold only to architect and interior designers and not to the public. This makes their pieces more exclusive so harder to find. In addition to the tag, some of their items were signed by the artists. So, do not confuse them with Arte de Mexico which is a Los Angeles based shop selling, although beautiful pieces as well, production pieces to the public.
