Well, what have we here? A lovely lady and her beautiful Borzoi on an “Afternoon Stroll.” This is a fabulous statue titled “Afternoon Stroll” which was created by famed artist Alexander Danel and produced by Austin Productions. Some say her dog is a Borzoi which is a Russian Wolfhound while others say it is a greyhound… but since the Borzoi is a descendant from the Arabian greyhound, you can call it whichever you prefer!! He stands proud and poised on a black rectangular base as she leans over his backside softly stroking his shoulders while dressed to the T in her fabulous black mink bolero with cropped sleeves and stunning antiqued silver dress with matching long gloves. They are quite the impressive pair! This sculpture stands at just over 27 inches tall so it’s fairly large, and it would look wonderful on a buffet, desk, or tabletop in any room that needs a bit of Art Deco Revival flare.
Alexander Danel was born in Estonia in 1940. He graduated both the Moscow Industrial Arts School and the Moscow Fine Arts Academy. Mr. Danel won many awards in Russia including Best Work of the Year in 1973 for his monumental work commemorating the history of Russian Wars. In 1976 he emigrated to the United States where he sculpted set designs. He settled in New York where he completed commissions for Rockefeller Plaza and Radio City Music Hall. In 1988 Mr. Danel was appointed Principal Sculptor for Austin Productions. He passed away in 2001. -worthpoint
