There are few things more beautiful than the sight of seagulls in flight, flocked together above the mighty ocean, the wind pushing against their wings and the sun beaming brightly behind them. Just take a moment and gaze upon the details of this sculpture… Don’t you find yourself on the beach? You can almost hear the crashing of the waves and the calling of the birds, feel the warmth of the sun and the wind in your face, and if you listen closely, you can hear the laughter of children building sandcastles on the beach. It is truly a masterpiece. This is a stunning brass plated birds or flock of seagull’s wall sculpture signed and dated C. Jere 1985. C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. This is a must have on any wall that needs a touch of Modern style or just an intriguing piece of artwork. Brass and beautiful birds… just what the designer ordered!!
Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in Mid Century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11/5/07 and Curtis Freiler, his brother-in-law passed 7/22/13 at a ripe old age of 103. But their legacy lives on in these fabulous sculptures. Over the years Artisan House was sold and resold remaining in business today.
We are in LOVE with this gorgeous brass birds or flock of seagull’s wall sculpture by C. Jere, and surely you must too! Make it yours!!
