This Heywood Wakefield, or HeyWake as some collectors call it, stool is just too fun! Those splayed and curved legs and the fact that it swivels makes me smile. This round vanity stool or ottoman poof comes from Heywood Wakefield’s Kohinoor Collection which is attributed to designer Ernst Herrmann and was in production from 1949 through 1951. Most of these stools had a pinwheel tufted velvet upholstered seat but this example is covered in a nice brocade and a very tailored style with smooth top and sides and a self-covered welt. I believe this tends to give this stool a more mid-century modern look rather than the Hollywood Regency feel of the tufted ones. The original wheat finish on the awesome splayed legs is in very good condition and the brocade is usable and rather nice with its retro look; but, I can really imagine this in great new fabric. It is so versatile and there are so many places to use this stool that don’t include its original use as a vanity stool, I know you want it. Make it yours.
