Description

This Mid-Century modern off-white ceramic Navis & Smith table lamp is so simple yet so good-looking. It is the perfect little lamp for so many places. Beautiful off-white speckled tone on tone textured ceramic urn-shaped vase base, possibly made by the Elgee division of the Gonder potteries for Navis & Smith, is accented nicely with a turned walnut neck and square walnut base. The bottom and top of the vase is banded by a strip of brass where the walnut meets the ceramic. Very nicely detailed but simple. It is in wonderful vintage condition and we have added a new modified drum shade in off-white completing its elegant simplicity.

For a little further history; the Navis & Smith Co. was very well-known for their TV Lamps and, according to tvlamps.net, was founded in 1946 by Alan Navis, who had been in the lamp business since the 1920’s, and Milton Smith. Navis & Smith commissioned Elgee potteries and Gonder potteries to make lamp bases during the 1950’s; however, not all bases were made by these potters.
