Flair Division

Brass, Wood

We are really loving this outstanding modern dining table we just got into the shop. It has a central pedestal base with brass trim which allows for lots of knee room and chair space. It is a nice size on its own but has two leaves that make it phenomenal. The leaves even have the same thick outer edge design as the main part of the table so leaves can be left in all the time and it looks complete. It is made of the most gorgeous wood and the top has a chevron inlaid design on each end. The wood has an oak-like grain but of some special portion of the tree or milling process. It could be ash. We attribute it to Bernhardt Hibriten Furniture’s Flair Division. We do that for two reasons. One because the chairs that accompanied it are tagged “made by Flair for Hibriten Furniture Company”. And, two, because we have researched and seen other like tables by them. We have assessed the age to be 1970s due to its style and when the Flair name was being used. By 1982 Bernhardt had dropped their Flair Division and the Hibriten Furniture name going only by Bernhardt Furniture. This amazingly beautiful table is sure to be a showstopper.

Bernhardt Furniture was established in 1889 by John Mathias Bernhardt and has been going strong for over 125 years. He spent many years out west in Oregon Territory. After a serious illness, traveling back home to Lenoir, North Carolina and working as a logger in the densely forested foothills of Grandfather Mountain. He went to work for Caldwell Land and Lumber Company and while working there he convinced them to build a railroad to move lumber and supplies. He then purchased his own sawmill and began buying timber. The next step of manufacturing his own furniture followed soon after bringing the birth of Bernhardt Furniture. He became known as a man of integrity, giving back to his community and for producing high quality furniture. A legacy was born. It was carried on and improved upon by his sons, George Bernhardt and John Christian Bernhardt, and eventually his grandson, Alex Bernhardt Sr. Through the years they grew, expanded, diversified, bought other companies, sold other companies, created divisions, and let them go. Two important names in all the comings and goings were Flair and Hibriten. Bernhardt Furniture remains a family owned company with Alex Bernhardt Jr. is now the 4th generation to be involved. They continue John Mathias’ legacy of integrity, high-quality furnishings, and giving back to their community.

This awesome table will make a great statement no matter your design style. You need to make it yours!
