Description

Amazing Meiji period, 1868 – 1912. Satsuma tea set with highly gilded dragons motif. Possibly Seven Immortals or Thousand Faces. I haven’t been able to determine exact design. Set consists of teapot with lid, a creamer or smaller teapot with lid, and ten cups and ten saucers. It is incredibly beautiful and in wonderful vintage condition. No chips or cracks in anything that I can find. This set is from an estate where the grandfather, the original owner, was the Chief Medical Officer in the Panama Canal during the first half of the 20th century where and when this set was obtained. I’m told they entertained young Eisenhower so possibly Ike sipped from one of these cups! Regardless, this is a very beautiful and wonderful set.
