Now you can get all your Dux in a row!! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This is the iconic and beautiful Scissor Lounge Chair. It was designed by Folke Ohlsson for his company Dux, Inc. purportedly in 1949. It is so incredible in its simplicity and when viewed from the side you can see immediately where it got its name. We are very excited about this wonderful chair here at our shop. Its walnut frame has been completely restored and we have replaced all the straps, which were beyond repair, with proper strapping. Plus, we have made new foam cushions and upholstered them in a fabulous black and taupe horizontal stripe fabric.
Folke Ohlsson is a Scandinavian modern Swedish furniture designer who was born in 1919, raised, and educated in Sweden. But in 1953 Ohlsson moved to the United States and established Dux, Inc. an American iteration or namesake of the Scandinavian furniture industry’s largest manufacturer of upholstered furniture. This creation of an American company producing Scandinavian furniture may be for what Folke Ohlsson is best remembered. Well that and the invention/introduction of knock-down furniture which is still used today by the likes of Ikea! Ohlsson headquarter the company in San Francisco for three years before moving it to Burlingame, California in 1956. Over the years other great designers i.e. Bruno Mathsson and Edward J Wormley did designs for the company but it was the designs of Folke Ohlsson’s armchair and sofas that were prized for their traditional details and modernist simplicity not to mention formal recognition and awards. Folke Ohlsson passed on October 23, 2002.
This chic Scandinavian Modern chair is ready to be positioned in a place of honor in your home. Make it yours!
