Oh, my goodness!!! I could not believe my eyes when my husband brought this to me from our stash room. I had totally forgotten about it. This is the iconic Scandinavian Modern Z chair from Selig. And, it is wearing its original phenomenal mod floral fabric. This chair has had quite the controversy over its designer. It has been touted to have been designed by three different Danish designers, Finn Juhl, Poul Jensen and Ib Kofod Larsen. But is seems the consensus by most is Poul Jensen. However, there are those who still feel it was Larsen. Regardless it is amazing. We did restore the walnut frame with its typical low slung mid-century Scandinavian design and fantastic Z shaped arms and sides to its original glory. And we had new foam inserted in the original cushions in order to keep their amazing red, orange, purple, and yellow floral fabric. So, it is ready to use wherever your heart desires.
Selig Furniture was founded in 1931 in Gardner, Massachusetts by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler. By the 1950s, under the guidance of Samuel’s son, Robert, Selig grew to be one of the leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture in America. They focused on high end designs with most coming from Denmark, other Scandinavian countries, and Italy. Responsible for bringing the Scandinavian Modern master designers to the American public they helped to popularize the modern interior design style that was taking the country by storm during the post-war era. By the time they sold to mattress producer Simmons in the 1970s they had five American factories.
This Z lounge chair is an icon of mid-century Scandinavian design and you should make it yours.
