These are the perfect petite mid-century modern dining chairs for a smaller dining room. This cane back with upholstered seat was an exceedingly popular mid-century modern style. Maybe first created by Edward Wormley for Dunbar but I have seen similar chairs by Baker and Lane as well. However, none of them are quite exactly like these. This set has a dark walnut toned stained finish on their frames and caned rather low backs which are slightly bowed and slightly wider at the top than their bottom. The back legs are a continuation of the back frame making a much stronger chair and the front legs have a sassy little taper and curve. Their seats are lightly padded and have been freshly covered in a cotton twill fabric. Said fabric has become highly controversial here at the shop with some saying it is black and some saying it is dark navy blue. In my opinion it depends upon what it is paired with and can go both ways. In case you don’t need dining chairs, but have fallen in love with these, maybe you need a set for a breakfast nook or sunroom. Or put them around a game table in your living room or family room. Wherever you choose to use them…you must first make them yours!
