Vintage Modern Coffee Table Black & Faux Finish Lacquer with Black Leather Top Signed by Karl Springer

This is a GORGEOUS rectangular rather Parson’s style coffee table comprised of beautiful dark finished faux wood framework, with black lacquered modified waterfall style corners connecting straight square legs, a black leather (but since it’s Karl Springer…it could be goatskin!) top insert, and it’s signed by Karl Springer himself! Parson’s style is such a classic design that dates to 1930 when French designer Jean-Michael Frank decided he was going to design a table that was simple enough that it could fit into any home regardless of style preference. Contemporary, mid-century modern, or modern, Parson’s style tables just work anywhere. And this take on that original design is done impeccably by and signed by Karl Springer!!! Does it get any better?? We think NOT!!! It is going to be wonderful in your living room across from your sofa or in the family room adorned with books, foliage, artwork, or a sculpture. Karl Springer was born in Berlin 1931 and immigrated to the U.S, in 1957. He settled in New York with hopes of becoming a bookbinder. He began working for Lord & Taylor flagship store on Fifth Avenue and quickly became top window designer for them. In the evenings he applied his unique skills to creations of decorative items covered in fine leathers, skins, and other exotic materials and developed a design collection of leather accessories. With the support of his friend, he was able to place his line in a prestigious specialty shop within Bergdorf Goodman. The line was an overnight sensation. He opened an atelier on East 53^rd Street and it’s been rumored that The Dutchess of Windsor discovered him and threw him into stardom. People were captivated by his creations and charming personality. He quickly began taking on larger and more important commissions and he developed a network of craftsman always demanding the highest quality of materials and workmanship. He met Mark Eckman who was a young designer with a line of Lucite and lighting, and they began a lengthy collaboration. His brother joined the business, and it rapidly grew to a full furniture line, but the company ceased production in 1992. Mr. Springer passed away in 1991. He was honored with a one-man show at New York School of Interior Design in 1994. His designs and original pieces are still in high demand. -KarlSpringerFurniture
